Kohlar “Kohlie” Frantzen has 30 years of experience in oil and
gas, venture capital, startups, and law. While earning a bachelor’s degree
in finance from Louisiana State University in the 1990s, Kohlie founded
an independent energy company engaged in onshore oil and gas exploration in
Southwest Louisiana.
In 2002, Kohlie earned a juris doctor degree from Loyola University New
Orleans College of Law, where he externed for the Honorable Pascal F.
Calagaro in the Louisiana State Supreme Court. He served as an
attorney-advisor for the Honorable Lee Romero in the Office of
Administrative Law Judges and for the Honorable Rebecca F. Doherty in
the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. He
litigated criminal matters as an Assistant District Attorney in Jefferson
Parish and civil matters involving insurance defense and family law in
Lafayette Parish.
Kohlie has also worked with startups in assistive technology for people
with disabilities and with innovative agriculture for which he specialized
in negotiation, customer service, sales, strategic planning, and education.
Kohlie has served on non-profits in education and arts with a focus on
making long-term impacts and outcomes for the community.
In 2024, Kohlie earned an L.L.M. in Taxation from Washington University St.
Louis School of Law and is currently involved with estate planning and
successions matters. Kohlie lives with his wife, Elise, in Lafayette,
Louisiana, where they are joyfully outnumbered by four children and three
dogs.
